Flame

In my final project during my internship at Tom Dixon Ltd he was invited by Sudeley Castle to participate in their Artists’ Playground Exhibition.  It was an exciting project to be involved in from start to finish, it proved to be an incredible hands on experience working with closely with Tom, engineers and manufacturers.

“The furniture takes its inspiration from the perfect underpinning for the archetypical British summer afternoon outdoors – swing chairs, chess tables and recliners - no longer made of cheap and temporary canvas and pine wood but this time fabricated from inch thick plate steel, a material more often used for tanks, submarines and bank safes, solid enough to resist the inconvenience of conflict and world wars and durable enough for the next 1000 years.”

Within six weeks a chair, chaise lounges, table and a swing chair that weighed in at half a tonne were created, all constructed from 30-40mm flame cut steal and held together by M16 bolts.
